Foitik wins three-set thriller to seal men's tennis win

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-3) got a big time win in singles competition on Monday at the Tucson Racquet Club.

Richie Foitik (Santa Rita HS) won his No. 1 singles match after battling back in the final two sets to win 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Nao Iwamoto. Foitik's win sealed the match for the Aztecs as they beat Skagit Valley College 6-3. Foitik and No. 1 doubles partner Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) beat Iwamoto and Thomas Spada 8-1. Ton won his third straight match at No. 3 singles as he defeated Jared Wigen 6-0, 6-2.

Aldo Amaya (San Luis HS) won his second straight three-set match at No. 6 singles as he defeated Lowe Saekow 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.

Mathieu Lancaster (Marana HS) won his No. 2 singles match over Spada 6-1, 6-1. Lancaster and doubles partner Juan Bravo (Nogales HS) beat Wigen and Durante Rodriguez 8-3. Bravo lost his No. 5 singles match to Nick Edson in three-sets 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Josh Henkel (Canyon del Oro HS) and No. 3 doubles partner Aaron Vazquez (Nogales HS) dropped a close match against Edson and Saekow 8-6. Henkel fell in his No. 4 singles match against Rodriguez 6-0, 6-1.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC Conference play on Thursday when they play at Mesa Community College at 1:30 p.m.
