Bravo earns two wins but Aztecs men's tennis fall short against Glendale
The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-5, 0-5 in ACCAC) lost a couple of close doubles matches which proved to be the difference in Pima's 5-4 loss on Thursday against Glendale Community College.
Richie Foitik (Santa Rita HS) and Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) took a 7-6 lead in their No. 1 doubles match but lost in the tie-breaker 9-8 (9-7) to Max Schell and Matt Deferme. Josh Henkel (Canyon del Oro HS) and Aaron Vazquez (Nogales HS) held a 5-4 advantage but lost to Matt Chavez and Yeovanny Laveaga 8-6 at No. 3 doubles. Mathieu Lancaster (Marana HS) and Juan Bravo (Nogales HS) dominated in their No. 2 doubles match as they beat Alejandro Tovar and Jesus Chino 8-2.
Aldo Amaya (San Luis HS) played a tough three-set match at No. 6 singles. He went up 5-2 in the first set but lost. He came back and won the final two game points in the second and third sets as he beat Laveaga 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Bravo won his match at No. 5 singles over Chavez 6-4, 6-3. At No. 3 singles, Ton dominated the second set as he defeated Tovar 7-5, 6-0.
Foitik dropped his match at No. 1 singles to Schell 6-4, 6-1. Lancaster lost to Deferme 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while Henkel lost to Chino at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-3.
The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Tuesday when they play at Paradise Valley Community College. The match will start at 1:30 p.m.
