Reisig Wins Three-Set Thriller as Men's Tennis Rally to Beat Imperial Valley

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-0) had to battle back in its match against Imperial Valley College on Saturday.

After dropping two of the three doubles matches, the Aztecs rallied in singles competition and won 5-4 to open the 2016 season..

Freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) dropped the second set but came back to win the final two set points of the third set to beat Jesus Castillo 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. His win won the match for the Aztecs.

Sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) won his match at No. 5 singles over Isaac Navarro 6-2, 6-3.

Freshman Curtis Jeffrey and sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) had a great day on the court. The duo rallied to defeat Isaac Navarro and Greg Gerardo at No. 3 doubles 9-8 (7-3 in tie-breaker) to help the Aztecs avoid a doubles sweep. Jeffery went on to defeat Gerardo 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles while Lopez won his No. 4 singles match over Mario Figueroa 6-0, (retire).

Reisig and No. 1 doubles partner Marc Avolos (Sunnyside HS) lost to Charlies Stephens and Figueroa 9-8 (7-3 in tie-breaker). Raj Singh Kaila and Trejo fell to Castillo and Robeir Verhofstadt 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

In other singles competition, Avolos lost to Stephens 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Singh Kaila lost to Verhofstadt in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The Aztecs will host Benedictine University at Mesa at the Tucson Racquet Club on Saturday, Feb. 20. The match will start at 1:00 p.m.
