Aztecs Men's Tennis Fall Against Arizona Christian University
The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-1) dropped a non-conference match at the Tucson Racquet Club on Monday against Arizona Christian University 8-1.
In singles competition, freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) won his match at No. 2 singles. He trailed 3-4 in the third set but rallied to defeat Jannis Froehlich 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) won the first set in his match but dropped the next two as he fell to Andrew Gross 5-7, 6-0, 7-5 in the No. 3 singles match. Freshman Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) played two tie-breaker sets but lost to David Castano 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-6) at No. 1 singles.
Sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) fell to Antoine Bedard in the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-3 while fellow sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) lost to Adam West 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Curtis Jeffery lost his No. 6 singles match 6-1, 6-2 to Nino Newberry
In doubles competition, Avalos and Reisig lost to Castano and Froehlich 8-5 in the No. 1 doubles match while Singh Kaila and Lopez fell at No. 2 doubles to Gross and Bedard 8-5. In the No. 3 doubles match, Trejo and Jeffery lost 8-1 to West and Newberry.
The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Tuesday Mar. 1 when they play at Mesa Community College. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
