Aztecs Men's Tennis Gets Shut Out by Glendale CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (1-3, 0-2 in ACCAC) struggled in its ACCAC conference match on Tuesday against Glendale Community College. The Aztecs were shut out 9-0.

In doubles competition, freshmen duo Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) and Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) played a tight match at No. 1 doubles but fell to Nick Silvestri and Steven Garcia 9-7. In the No. 2 doubles match, freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) and sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) fell against Matt Deferme and Jesus Chino 8-4. The No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) and freshman Curtis Jeffery were shut out against Ryan Costello and Leo Rodriguez 8-0.

Avalos rallied in his No. 1 singles match against Silvestri but dropped the third set tie-breaker. He lost 6-4, 3-6, 10-4. Reisig was blanked in his first set but fought in the second set of his No. 2 singles match but lost to Garcia 6-0, 6-4.

Singh Kaila lost to Deferme at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3 while Lopez dropped his No. 4 singles match to Costello 6-0, 6-2.

In the No. 5 singles match, Trejo lost to Chino 6-0, 6-2 and Jeffery fell at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-2 to Rodriguez.

The Aztecs will be back at the Tucson Racquet Club tomorrow when they host a non-conference match against the University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
