Avalos Wins Singles Match to Seal Men's Tennis Win at Paradise Valley CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-4, 1-2 in ACCAC) won a close match in Phoenix on Thursday to get its first ACCAC conference win of the season.

The Aztecs defeated Paradise Valley Community College 5-4. They dropped two of the three doubles matches but responded to win four of the six singles matches.

Freshman Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) sealed the win for the Aztecs after he defeated Nick Marroguin 7-6 (7-4 in tie breaker), 7-5 in their No. 1 singles match.

Sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) provided another big win for the Aztecs as he avoided playing a third-set tie breaker against Chris Malayan. Trejo won the No. 5 singles match 6-1, 7-5.

Freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) won his No. 2 singles match over Jalon Walz 6-1, 6-4 while fellow freshman Curtis Jeffery defeated Isaac Henry 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) dropped his No. 3 singles match to Freddy Henry 6-1, 6-1 and sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) lost to Cody Kacerek 6-0, 6-0.

Trejo and Jeffery provided the win for the Aztecs in doubles competition as they beat Malayan and Isaac Henry 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Avalos and Reisig dropped their No. 1 doubles match 8-4 to Marroguin and Walz while Singh Kaila and Lopez fell at No. 2 doubles 8-3 to Freddy Henry and Kacerek.

The Aztecs will play their fourth match of the week on Saturday against Skagit Valley College at the Tucson Racquet Club. The match begins at 1:00 p.m.
