Aztecs Men's Tennis Close Out Busy Week with Win

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (3-4) closed out the week with a 2-2 record after they defeated Skagit Valley College (WA.) in a non-conference win on Saturday.

Though they lost one of the doubles matches, the Aztecs responded by taking five of the six matches at singles to win 7-2.

Freshman Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) defeated Carlos Alencar 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while fellow freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) won a close match at No. 2 singles over Christian Davis 7-5, 6-3. The duo won their No. 1 doubles match over Alencar and Durante Rodriguez 8-5.

Freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) defeated Rodriguez at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-4 but sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) dropped a three-set match at No. 4 singles 6-7 (2-7), 6-0, 10-4. Singh Kaila and Lopez lost at No. 2 doubles 8-3 against Davis and Charles Stelling.

Sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) beat Stelling 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and freshman Curtis Jeffery shut out his opponent at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0. Trejo and Jeffery won a close No. 3 doubles match 8-6.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC play on Thursday when they host Mesa Community College at the Tucson Racquet Club. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
