Reisig's Win at Singles Propels Men's Tennis's Win Over Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (4-7, 2-4 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a close win against Paradise Valley Community College at the Tucson Racquet Club.

Freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) won his match at No. 2 singles to seal the 5-4 win for the Aztecs.

Reisig trailed 2-3 in the first set but took a 4-3 advantage and held on in the end. He trailed the second set 3-4 but rallied again with three straight set points. He defeated Nick Marroquin 7-5, 6-4.

The Aztecs took an early advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches. Reisig and No. 1 doubles partner Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) defeated Talon Walz and Marroquin 8-2. Sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) and freshman Curtis Jeffery beat Chris Mayalan and Issac Henry 8-4 at No. 3 doubles. Freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) and sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) lost their No. 2 doubles match to Freddy Henry and Cody Kacerek 8-5.

Avalos and Jeffery supplied the other wins for the Aztecs in singles competition. Avalos dominated to beat Walz 6-1, 6-1. Jeffery earned a shutout win in the first set and battled back from being down 4-5 in the second set to beat Isaac Henry 6-0, 7-5.

Singh Kaila fell to Freddy Isaac 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles while Lopez lost to Kacerek 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Trejo dropped his match at No. 5 singles to Mayalan 6-1, 6-2.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Championships on Apr. 19-20 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, AZ. Competition begins at 8:00 a.m. on both days.
