Aztecs Men's Tennis Season Ends at Region I Championships

The Pima Community College men's tennis team dropped their singles and doubles matches on Friday in the first day of competition at the Region I Championships.

The Aztecs played in three matches that went into three set tie-breakers in the singles semifinal round but fell short. Sophomore Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) won the first set against Glendale Community College's Nick Silvestri but fell in the end 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Landon Trejo (St. David HS) lost a close first set but won the second set. He lost to Leo Rodriguez from Glendale CC 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 6-2. Freshman Curtis Jeffery responded after dropping a close first to take the second but he fell in the end to Yeovanni Laveaga from Glendale CC 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.

Freshman Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) dropped his No. 2 singles match to Linus Holthey 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma Union HS) lost to David Felix from Mesa Community College at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Sophomore Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) dropped his match at No. 4 singles to Shimon Murukami from Mesa CC 6-0, 6-0. 

In the semifinal round of doubles competition, Avalos and Reisig fell to Mesa's Sacha Modica and Holthey 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Singh Kaila and Lopez lost at No. 2 doubles to Paradise Valley Community College's Freddy Henry and Cody Kacerek 6-3, 6-3. Trejo and Jeffery were shut out in their No. 3 doubles match against Mesa's Andres Loaiza and Matt Fisher 6-0, 6-0.

The Aztecs finished the regular season with a 4-7 overall record and 2-4 in ACCAC conference play.
