Ton wins three-set thriller as men's tennis upends Glendale CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team (2-1, 1-1 in ACCAC) picked up its first ACCAC conference win on Tuesday as they beat Glendale Community College 8-1.

The Aztecs swept the doubles competition as the No. 1 doubles team of sophomores Marc Avalos (Sunnyside HS) and Francisco Ton (Nogales HS) won a hard fought match over Matthew and Marion Pascal 8-5. Sophomore Dalton Reisig (Catalina Foothills HS) and freshman Francisco Sotelo (Cholla HS) dominated their match at No. 2 doubles for an 8-1 win passed Andreaw Arnold and Bryan Castanon. Sophomores Jesus Lopez (Canyon del Oro HS) and Raj Singh Kaila (Yuma HS) won their No. 3 doubles match over James McLean and Nathan Salim 8-2.

Ton was pushed to the limit but came away with a big victory at No. 2 singles as he won a three-set tie-breaker against Marion Pascal 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (8).

Reisig won his match at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 over Castanon while Soto took care of his match against Arnold at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Lopez and Singh Kaila earned shutout victories in their matches. Lopez won against Salim No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Singh Kaila blanked McLean 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Avalos dropped his match at No. 1 singles to Matthew Pascal 6-1, 6-0.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday when they host Paradise Valley Community College at 1:30 p.m.
