Aztecs men's tennis wins conference opener over No. 17 Mesa CC

The Pima Community College men's tennis team opened ACCAC conference play on Tuesday with a win over Mesa Community College.

  • The Aztecs won five of their six singles matches to win 7-2 over the No. 17 ranked Thunderbirds.
  • Freshman Pablo Acuna won his No. 1 singles match over Saarang Phadnis 6-1, 6-0.
  • Freshman Kemuel Redlin (Sahuaro HS) earned a victory over Max Beasley 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match.
  • Freshman Mason Lee (Catalina Foothills HS) won a tiebreaker in the first set to take down Hung Pham 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 in the No. 4 singles spot.
  • Sophomore Darin Trejo (St. David HS) lost a three-set match at No. 2 singles to Emilio Alvarado 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
  • The Aztecs won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches by default.
  • In doubles competition, Acuna and Lee won a tiebreaker over Phadnis and Alvarado 9-8 (7-3) in the No. 1 doubles match. Trejo and Redlin fell at No. 2 doubles to Beasley and Pham 9-8 (8-6). The Aztecs won the No. 3 doubles match by default.

The Aztecs will play at Paradise Valley Community College on Thursday, Mar. 19 for their next ACCAC conference match. First serve will be at 1:30 p.m.
