Aztecs Men's Track & Field claims second straight Region I Team Championship

The Aztecs Men's Track & Field team captured their second straight Region I Team Championship with a total of 258 points. The Pima Community College men's track & field team closed out competition at the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College.

  • The Aztecs captured their second straight Region I Team Championship with a final score of 258 points. Central Arizona College placed second with 213 points and Mesa Community College finished in third place with 210.
  • The Aztecs captured three more individual region crowns on the day. Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) won the 5,000-meter race with a time of 15 minutes, 19.59 seconds. He took first in the 1,500-meter race last season at the region championships.
  • Freshman Darlington Onsarigo (Mica Mountain HS) claimed the region title in the Triple Jump with a mark of 14.41 meters (47-3.50).
  • Freshman Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) captured the region title in the High Jump with a finishing jump of 2.02 meters (6-7.50). Teammates Brett Wynn (Corona del Oro HS) and Tyler Rogers tied for second place in the High Jump as they each closed it out with a mark of 1.97 meters (6-5.50). The Aztecs finished with 24 team points in the event.
  • The 4x400 relay team of Jordan Cortner, Wyatt Preble, Braxton Hinton, Broden Cahoon took first place with a time of 3:15.86.
  • Sophomore Kayden Cockrell finished second in the Triple Jump with a mark at 14.36 meters (47-1.50).
  • Cortner produced a strong race in the 400-meter hurdles as he took second place with a time of 53.02 seconds.

  • Brett Wynn (Corona del Sol HS) – 3rd place in Triple Jump 13.87 meters (45-6.25) (6 points)
  • Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS) – 3rd place in 1,500 meters 3:57.96 (6 points); 5th place in 800 meters 1:56.64 (4 points)
  • Nasir Tucker – 3rd place in 400 meters 47.26 (6 points); 6th place in 200 meters 22.61 (3 points)
  • Dhia Gaaloul – 4th place in Triple Jump 13.62 meters (44-8.25) (5 points)
  • Wyatt Preble (Salpointe Catholic HS) – 4th place in the 800 meters 1:56.10 (5 points)
  • Jesus Quintero – 4th place in 400-meter hurdles 53.99 (5 points); 5th place in 110-meter hurdles 15.16 (4 points)
  • Nicholas Patterson (Poston Butte HS) – 4th place in 110-meter hurdles 15.06 (5 points); 7th place in 400-meter hurdles 55.79 (2 points)
  • Broden Cahoon – 5th place in 100 meters 10.81 (4 points)
  • Asa Fish – 5th place in Shot Put 12.74 meters (41-9.75) (4 points)
  • Jordan Cortner – 5th place in 400 meters 48.73 (4 points)
  • Braxton Hinton – 5th place in 200 meters 21.83 (4 points); 6th place in 100 meters 10.82 (3 points)
  • Dillon Arvayo – 6th in Discus 36.54 meters (119-10) (3 points)
  • Jacob Garcia (Sahuarita HS) – 6th place in Shot Put 12.68 meters (41-7.25) (3 points)
  • Tommy Duncan (Walden Grove HS) – 6th place in High Jump 1.77 meters (5-9.75) (3 points)
  • David Teso (Benson HS) – 7th place in Discus 34.67 meters (113-9) (2 points)
  • Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) – 7th place in 1,500 meters 4:02.83 (2 points)
  • Lee Barber (Palo Verde HS) – 8th place in 400-meter hurdles 56.32 (1 point)
  • Elijah Conroy (Rincon/University) – 8th place in 5,000 meters 15:19.16 (1 point)

The Aztecs will compete at NJCAA Division I National Championships on May 16-18 at Brown Stadium held at the University of Louisiana Monroe in West Monroe, LA.
