Pima Softball duo Martin and Waddell sweep ACCAC Player and Pitcher of the Week honors

Pima Community College softball players Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) and Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) were key to the Aztecs continuing their winning ways for the week April 7-13 and received accolades from the ACCAC conference.

  • Martin, a freshman outfielder, was named ACCAC Division I Player of the Week. The lead-off hitter went 7 for 15 (.467) at the plate with eight runs scored, three RBIs, two doubles, a triple, a home run and a walk at Yavapai College and Scottsdale Community College. She had multiple hits in three of the four games played.
    She is batting .352 with 40 runs scored, 24 walks, 21 RBIs, 12 doubles and four steals in 35 games played this season.
  • Waddell earned her second straight nod as ACCAC Division I Pitcher of the Week and third overall (Mar. 31-Apr. 6, Mar. 10-16). This is her fourth conference award as she was selected ACCAC Division I Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 18-24.
    She pitched 11.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs with seven strikeouts and three walks. Waddell closed out the week pitching a five-inning shutout, giving up one hit with five strikeouts and one walk against Scottsdale Community College.
    She has pitched 53 innings this season and has a 3.30 ERA in 14 appearances.

The Aztecs are back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Central Arizona College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First game starts at noon.
