Aztecs track & field claim seven region titles; Women's team takes second place at Region I Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field teams closed out competition at the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs women's team took second place with a team score of 192 points. Central Arizona College took first with 309. The men's team placed third with a score of 157 points. Mesa Community College took first with 252 and Central Arizona was second at 243.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took home her second region championship after she won the 1,500 meter race with a time of 4 minutes, 52.55 seconds setting a new personal record. She took second in the 5,000 meter race at 19:07.40. Bruno won the 3,000 meter steeplechase on Tuesday and earned a total of 28 points for the Aztecs.

Freshman Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) won her region championship in the triple jump with a mark of 38-feet, 3.50-inches). Freshman Mecca Marks (Desert Edge HS) took second with a jump of 35-2.50 while sophomore Megan Schiffmacher (Cactus HS) placed third at 34-5.50. The Aztecs earned 24 points for the event.

Freshman Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) claimed the women's long jump region title on Tuesday.

In men's competition, sophomore Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) claimed his second region title after he won the triple jump with a mark of 46-feet, 8.25-inches. He also took third place in the high jump at 6-2. He won the long jump on Tuesday. Jarus earned 26 total points for the Aztecs.

Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned his region championship in the 800 meter race. He crossed the finish line with a time of 1:56.03. He also set a personal record in the 1,500 meter race after he took third place with a time of 4:03.19.

The Aztecs had four placements that scored points in the triple jump. Freshman Andrew Arvayo (Mountain View HS) took third place at 43-8 while freshman Monte Albert (Flagstaff HS) was fourth at 43-3.25. Sophomore Ben Anderson (Flagstaff HS) finished in fifth place with a mark of 42-5.50. They scored 25 total points in the event.

The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships on May 17-19 at the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in El Dorado, KS.
