Chavez takes seventh in pole vault after first day at NJCAA National Championship

The Pima Community College men's and women's track & field team took part in the first day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Thursday at the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex in El Dorado, KS.

Sophomore Tony Chavez (Bisbee HS) took seventh place in the men's pole vault and earned three team points for the Aztecs. He finished with a vault of 14-feet, 7.25-inches (4.45 meters).

The 4x100 relay team of Dariun Glover (Skyline HS), Robert Williams (South Mountain HS), Isaiah Martin (Empire HS) and Duan Grant earned a season-best time in their prelim race with a time of 41.09 seconds.

Seth Jarus (Wickenburg HS) – 11th in Long Jump (22-feet, 9.75-inches, 6.95 meters)

Issa Abdikadir (Desert View HS), Andy Trinh (Catalina HS), Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS), Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) – 12th in 4x800 relay (7:55.52)

Alyssa Watkins (Camp Verde HS) – 9th in Hammer Throw (145-feet, 44.20 meters)

Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) – 13th in Long Jump (16-feet, 7-inches, 5.05 meters)

The Aztecs continue competition at the NJCAA National Championships on Friday.
