Aztecs Women's Basketball Earn Split at Eastern Arizona Thanksgiving Classic

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (5-2) played two games in the Eastern Arizona Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday in Thatcher.

The No. 10 Aztecs, a Division II team defeated Division I's Williston State College (ND) 79-55. Pima outscored Williston in every quarter and capped it off with a 26-16 fourth quarter.

Sophomore Taylor Blue (Peoia HS) finished with a team-high 19 points with five rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) contributed with 14 points and sophomore Gabby Banales (Cienega HS) had 12 points and six rebounds.

In their first game on Friday, The No. 10 ranked Aztecs, lost to No. 9 New Mexico Junior College, a Division I team, 71-46. This was the second time this season the Aztecs have played New Mexico JC. They lost to them 55-39 at the Arizona Western Classic on Nov. 13.

The Aztecs fell behind 28-13 after the first quarter and were outscored 14-5 in the fourth. Sophomore Gabby Banales (Cienega HS) had 13 points while freshman Denesia Smith finished with 11.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday when they play at Glendale Community College at 5:30 p.m.
