Blue and Fernander Lead the Way in Aztecs Women's Basketball Win

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (9-3, 6-1 in ACCAC) had a slow start in its game against Tohono O'Odham Community College but dominated the second quarter to pull away.

The Aztecs defeated Tohono O'Odham 63-38 after outscoring them 19-4 in the quarter. Pima went 4 for 18 from the field in the first quarter.

The Aztecs trailed early at 9-4 but went on a 28-4 run to take a 32-13 lead at halftime. The Aztecs led by as much as 25 points in the game.

Sophomores Taylor Blue (Peoria HS) and Shalise Fernander (Flowing Wells HS) each scored 13 points. Blue secured a double-double as she added 12 rebounds. Fernander had two steals and two blocks. Freshman Bailey Johnson (Tucson Magnet HS) had nine points after she went 3 for 6 from three-point range.

The Aztecs are off until the fifth annual Bruce Fleck Classic on Dec. 29-31. The Aztecs will begin against Parkland College on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7:00 p.m. All the games will be at the West Campus.
