Aztecs Women's Basketball Break Away Late to Beat Chandler-Gilbert

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (17-3, 11-1 in ACCAC) pulled away in the fourth quarter to win its 11th straight game on Wednesday in Chandler.

The Aztecs defeated Chandler-Gilbert Community College 83-67 after they outscored the Coyotes (5-15, 1-11) 23-10 in the final quarter. The Aztecs led 40-35 at halftime and held on to a 60-57 lead after the third quarter.

Freshman Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS), who was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the third time on Tuesday, led all scores with 31 points. She also had six rebounds and two assists. Fellow freshman Denesia Smith (Cienega HS) had a well-rounded game with 14 points, five rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block. Sophomore Taylor Blue (Peoria HS) was a rebound short of a double-double as she contributed with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Aztecs swept the regular season head-to-head meetings with Chandler-Gilbert. Pima won 77-70 at the West Campus gym in November.

The Aztecs play at Phoenix College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Pima beat them 61-46 in November.
