Stallworth Drops 20 Points but Women's Basketball Fall Against Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (19-5, 13-3 in ACCAC) fell behind early in the fourth quarter and couldn't recover on Wednesday against Eastern Arizona College (17-7, 14-2) in a battle of the first place teams in the ACCAC.

The Aztecs lost 77-69 as they suffered their first home loss at the West Campus this season.

The Gila Monsters went on a 9-0 run that carried from the end of the third quarter into the fourth. Pima trailed 55-53 and fell behind 64-53 with 8:34 left in the game and couldn't get closer than eight points in the end.

In the first half when the Aztecs started to build a lead, the Gila Monsters would respond. The Aztecs took a 20-11 lead in the first quarter but the Gila Monsters came back to take a 23-22 advantage. The Aztecs came right back with a 9-0 run of their own to lead 31-23 but Eastern Arizona held a 38-37 halftime lead. Pima was outrebounded 41-36 for the game and Eastern collected 18 offensive rebounds.

Freshman Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) finished the game with 20 points and four steals while sophomore Taylor Blue (Peoria HS) had 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Gabby Banales (Cienega HS) went 3 for 4 from three-point range and finished with nine points.

The Aztecs were swept in their head-to-head meetings this season with Eastern Arizona. They lost 75-70 last month in Thatcher.

The Aztecs will play another three games on the road. They will be at Cochise College in Douglas on Saturday. The game will start at 5:30 p.m.
