Aztecs women's basketball dominate at South Mountain CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (9-2, 4-1 in ACCAC) put one back in the win column on Saturday at South Mountain Community College (3-4, 1-4).

The No. 1 ranked Aztecs took control in the first half to beat the Cougars 86-54 in Phoenix after their seven-game win streak was snapped on Wednesday against Eastern Arizona College.

The Aztecs took a 39-19 lead at halftime and outscored South Mountain 25-13 after the third quarter.

Sophomore Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) finished with 16 points while Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) had 15 points. Sophomore Denesia Smith (Cienega HS) posted 13 points and fellow sophomore Bree Cates contributed with 11 points. Freshman Piper Mali (Ironwood Ridge HS) had nine points off the bench.

The Aztecs are off for the winter break and will return in the Bruce Fleck Classic on Dec. 28-30 at the West Campus. The Aztecs will play Dawson Community College on Dec. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
