Three score in double figures as Aztecs women's basketball bests South Mountain

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (18-5, 12-4 in ACCAC) got back on track on Wednesday as the Aztecs defeated South Mountain Community College (5-13, 2-13) at the West Campus.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs won 83-53 as they took control in the first quarter with a 22-7 lead. The Cougars rallied in the second quarter cutting the Pima lead to 27-18 with 3:54 left and frustrated the Aztecs with their pressure defense. Pima also started the quarter shooting 1 for 8 from the field but went on a 16-6 run to get the double digit lead back at 43-24.

The Aztecs' defense helped close it out in the fourth quarter as the Cougars didn't make their first field until the 4:18 mark. The Aztecs outscored them 24-12 for the quarter.

Sophomore Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) finished the game with a game-high 27 points on 10 for 16 shooting. She also added seven rebounds and five assists. Freshman Alliyah Bryant (Mesquite HS) got the start and dropped 13 points as she went 4 for 8 from the three-point line. Sophomore Moana Hala'ufia (Marana HS) contributed with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Aztecs swept the regular season meetings with the Cougars. Pima beat South Mountain 86-54 in Phoenix.

The Aztecs play at Scottsdale Community College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
