Cates nets 24 points as Aztecs women's basketball break away from Scottsdale CC

The Pima Community College women's basketball team (19-5, 13-4 in ACCAC) found itself in a tight game on the road but broke free in the fourth quarter at Scottsdale Community College (9-15, 7-10).

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs defeated the Artichokes 71-58 on Saturday. The Aztecs led 46-43 after the third quarter and outscored the Artichokes 25-15 in the fourth. The Aztecs held a 34-26 advantage at halftime.

Sophomore Bree Cates scored a game-high 24 points on 8 for 18 shooting and had six rebounds. Sophomore Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman Izzy Spruit (Mesquite HS) got the start and finished with 11 points. Sophomore Erin Peterson (Catalina Foothills HS) contributed with eight points and nine rebounds.

The Aztecs swept the regular season meetings with the Artichokes. They won 89-63 last month at the West Campus.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus on Wednesday when they host Cochise College at 5:30 p.m.
