Smith signs letter of intent to Washburn University

Pima Community College standout basketball player Denesia Smith (Cienega HS) signed her national letter of intent on Saturday.

Smith, a guard, will continue her education and her collegiate basketball career at Washburn University, an NCAA Division II school in Topeka, KS.

She was named second team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II two straight years. Smith helped the Aztecs to a 23-8 overall record and a second place finish at the Region I, Division II tournament. She was also instrumental in Pima's run to a third place finish at the NJCAA Division II Tournament last season. Smith red-shirted during the 2014-15 season.

Smith averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals this season while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three-point range. She also shot 75.0 percent from the free throw line. She played in 29 games and made 27 starts and was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week three times during her Pima career.
