Hong Wins Mesa Invitational as Aztecs Women's Golf Take Second Place

The Pima Community College women's golf team finished in second place at the Mesa CC Invitational on Monday at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course.

The Aztecs finished with a team-score of 658 (332-326) but host Mesa Community College took first with 628 (318-310). South Mountain Community College placed third with a two-day total of 687 (345-342).

Freshman Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) won the individual tournament as she shot a two-day score of 151. She shot a three-over 75 in her first round and closed it out with a four-over par 76. She won by three strokes over Savannah Cooper from Mesa who took second place with a 154 (77-77).

Freshman Adriana Moreno (Cholla HS) finished the tournament tied for eighth place with a two-day total of 168 (84-84).

Sophomore Casey Morinelli (Mountain View HS) and freshman Samantha Hacker each finished tied for 11th place with 170. Morinelli and Hacker were each four-strokes better in their second round of play (87-83).

Freshman Raquel Converse shot a 171 (86-85) for the tournament while sophomore Carley Nelson (Marana HS) finished with a 182 (93-89).

The Aztecs will compete in the Scottsdale Invitational at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City, AZ on Mar. 7-8. The teams will begin to tee off at 11:00 a.m. on both days.
