Hong Wins Second Straight Tournament as Women's Golf Take Second at Chandler-Gilbert Invitational

The Pima Community College women's golf team took second place for the fourth straight time in regular season competition on Wednesday.

The Aztecs held off South Mountain Community College and had a nine-stroke improvement from the first round. They finished with a two-day score of 667 (338-329). South Mountain took third place with 676 (340-336). Mesa Community College placed first in the final team standings with 627 (311-316).

Freshman Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) continued her consistent play as she took first place in the individual tournament for the second straight time. She had a winning total of 151 as she shot a three-over 75 on Tuesday and a 76 in the final round on Wednesday.

Freshmen Adriana Moreno (Cholla HS) and Samantha Hacker (Sahuaro HS) each shot a two-day total of 170. Moreno finished the final round with a six-stroke improvement from the first day with an 88-82 while Hacker was two shots better on the second day with an 86-84. Sophomore Carley Nelson (Marana HS) rounded out the top four scorers with a 176 (89-87). She finished 15th in the standings.

The Aztecs will compete in the South Mountain CC Invitational at the Legacy Golf Resort in Laveen, AZ on Apr. 4-5. The teams will begin to tee off at 12:30 p.m. on both days.
