Hong ties for first place at Mesa Invitational

The Pima Community College women's golf team kicked off the 2017 season in the Mesa Invitational on Sunday and Monday at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course.

The Aztecs took second place in the final team standings with a two-day total of 712. They improved by 22 strokes in the second round of play (367-345). Mesa Community College took first place with 694 (338-356). Chandler-Gilbert Community College placed third with 744 (364-380) and Paradise Valley Community College took fourth at 818 (401-417).

Sophomore Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) tied for first place as she shot a two-day score of 155. She struggled in the first round with an 83 but shot an even-par 72 for the second day.

Sophomore Samantha Hacker (Sahuaro HS) took sixth place with a score of 177 (89-88) while freshman Abby Miller (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished in ninth place with 182 (94-88). Freshman Juliana Perez shot a 198 (101-97).

The Aztecs will play in the Scottsdale Invitational at the Hillcrest Golf Course in Sun City on Feb. 13-14. The teams will begin to tee off at 11:00 a.m. on both days.
