Hong takes first place at Chandler-Gilbert Invitational

The Pima Community College women's golf team completed play in the Chandler-Gilbert Invitational on Monday at the Las Colinas Golf Course in Queen Creek, AZ.

The Aztecs took second place with a two-day score of 682 (342-340). Mesa Community College took first place with 638 (317-321). Chandler-Gilbert Community College finished third with 808 (401-407) and South Mountain Community College placed fourth with 816 (405-411).

Sophomore Desiree Hong (Sahuaro HS) earned medalist honors as she won her first tournament outright with a two-day total of 147. She tied for first place in the first two of the three tournaments.

Hong shot an even-par 71 in the first round and shot a five-over par in the final round. She finished three strokes ahead of second place.

Freshman Abby Miller (Ironwood Ridge HS) took sixth place after she improved in her second round of play. She shot a 161 (82-79). Sophomore Samantha Hacker (Sahuaro HS) was eighth in the standings as she finished with a 164 (81-83). Freshman Juliana Perez (Tucson HS) shot a 210.

The Aztecs turn around and start play in the South Mountain Invitational on Tuesday at the Legacy Golf Resort in Laveen, AZ. The teams begin to tee-off at 12:30 p.m.
