Aztecs Women's Soccer Season Ends After Loss Against Eastern Florida State

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (20-2-2) fell short in its bid to advance in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

The No. 8 seeded Aztecs lost to No. 1 seed Eastern Florida State College 4-1 as the Aztecs finished the season with its first 20-win season under coach Kendra Veliz.

The Aztecs had three shot opportunities early in the game but Eastern Florida took control and put the Aztecs behind 2-0 at halftime. Freshman Maria Delgadillo (Rio Rico HS) had a shot at the goal but the Eastern Florida goalkeeper made the save as time expired for the half. Julia Hernandez and Khadija Shaw scored in the 13th and 34th minutes respectively for Eastern Florida State.

The Aztecs fell behind 4-0 with goals in the 52nd and 63rd minutes. The Aztecs avoided the shutout as freshman Daniela Garcia (Desert View HS) scored in the 80th minute.

The Aztecs were outshot 6-4 and freshman goalkeeper Daniela Sanchez (Sabino HS) had two saves.

Coach Veliz was named ACCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and Devyn Hunley (Sabino HS), Brandi Park (Sabino HS) and Sanchez were named All-ACCAC conference.
