Jones' Goal Proves Enough as Aztec Women's Soccer Shut Out Glendale in Region Quarterfinals

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (15-5-1) didn't have many clear cut opportunities to score goals but the Aztecs did enough to advance in the Region I, Division I tournament on Monday.

The No. 3 seeded Aztecs held Glendale Community College (8-10-3) to one shot on goal and beat the Gauchos 1-0 earning their 11th shutout victory of the season.

Sophomore Destiny Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) scored on a shot that got passed the right side of the goalkeeper in the 25th minute. Freshman Alexis Hernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) had the assist. The Aztecs led 1-0 at halftime.

The Aztecs finished with just three shots on goal for the game but held controlled on Glendale's side of the field for much of the second half.

Sophomore Daniela Sanchez (Sabino HS) finished the game with one save.

The Aztecs beat the Gauchos last month at the Kino North Grandstand 2-0 and played to a scoreless tie earlier this month at Glendale.

The Aztecs advance to the Region I, Division I semifinal round as they play at No. 2 seeded Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs struggled against the Coyotes this season falling 3-1 in Chandler and losing a tight-nipped 1-0 game at Kino North Stadium on Oct. 11.
