Aztec Women's Soccer Take Second Place at Region Championship; Fall at Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College women's soccer team fell short in its third straight bid to reach the NJCAA Division I National Tournament on Saturday.

The No. 3 seeded Aztecs were shutout by No. 1 Paradise Valley Community College (22-0) 3-0 in Phoenix. The Aztecs surrendered two early goals to Jacey Duncan in the 5th minute and Jamie Iurato in the 8th. The Aztecs played much of the first half on the defensive side of the ball.

The Aztecs produced more shots on goal in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net as time ran out on Pima's season.

The Aztecs were outshot 12-9 for the game as sophomore goalkeeper Daniela Sanchez (Sabino HS) finished the game with nine saves.

The Aztecs were beaten by the Pumas three times this season. Pima lost 1-0 in the first game of the season and fell 3-2 at Kino North Stadium in September.

The Aztecs finished the season with an overall record of 16-6-1. They had six sophomores and 14 freshmen on the squad this year.
