Smith and Hernandez score as Aztecs women's soccer win fourth straight

The Pima Community College women's soccer team (12-4-1) won their fourth straight game on Tuesday and earned a big win over rival Chandler-Gilbert Community College (10-5-1).

The Aztecs took care of their sixth shutout win as they beat the Coyotes 2-0. The Aztecs have won six of their last seven games. The two teams played to a scoreless tie in their first meeting in Chandler.

Sophomore Johmonique Smith (Cienega HS) put the Aztecs on the board with her goal in the 6th minute. The Aztecs took a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Sophomore Alexis Hernandez, who was named ACCAC Player of the Week on Monday, added an insurance goal in the 66th minute with an assist from freshman Annalisa Verdugo (Pueblo HS).

The Aztecs outshot the Coyotes 12-5 for the game and sophomore goalkeeper Tara Kase (Buena HS) finished with five saves.

The Aztecs will close out their regular season home schedule at Kino North Stadium on Thursday when they host Glendale Community College at 4:30 p.m.
