Aztecs women's tennis falls at Grossmont College
The Pima Community College women's tennis team (3-7) concluded its California trip on Wednesday but the Aztecs fell at Grossmont College in El Cajon, CA.
The Aztecs lost 6-3 as they dropped two of the three doubles matches and a couple of close matches in singles competition.
Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) and Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) won their No. 2 doubles match as they defeated Monica Chojnicka and Annie Cavalcante 8-1. Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) and Stephanie Nickles (Canyon del Oro HS) dropped a close match at No. 3 doubles as they lost to Maddy Kleine and Brianna Tyseling 8-6. Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) lost to Jaella Conway and Katie Salinda 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles match.
The Aztecs won two singles matches as Oropeza defeated Salinda 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles spot and Mackey shut out Brittani Brown 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match.
Hernandez won the first game in her match against Kleine but dropped the next two as she lost 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles match. Alameda played a close first game but lost to Chojnicka 7-6, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles spot. Karp played a close second game in her No. 1 singles match but lost to Conway 6-1, 6-4. Nickles dropped her match at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-2 to Tyseling.
The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC Conference play as they host Glendale Community College at the Tucson Racquet Club on Tuesday. The match starts at 1:30 p.m.
