Aztecs women's tennis shut out Skagit Valley College

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (6-7) kicked off a busy week on Monday by earning a shutout victory at the Tucson Racquet Club.

The Aztecs defeated Skagit Valley College (WA) 9-0. Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) won their No. 1 doubles match against Janet Dawson and Debbie Loeffler 8-2. Karp won her No. 1 singles match over Dawson 6-0, 6-1 while Oropeza beat Loeffler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

In No. 2 doubles action, Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) and Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) beat Caterina Amsler and Kaitlyn Orestad 8-1. Alameda went on to beat Amsler 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles match and Hernandez defeated Orestad at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.

Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) won a close match at No. 3 doubles as they defeated Veronica Williams and Lana Sween 8-4. Nickles beat Williams at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3 while Mackey shutout Sween 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles match.

The Aztecs will be back on the courts at the Tucson Racquet Club tomorrow when they host an ACCAC conference match against Eastern Arizona College at 1:30 p.m.
