Aztecs women's tennis even out overall record, defeat Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (8-8, 5-2 in ACCAC) evened out its overall record on Thursday after the Aztecs defeated Glendale Community College 8-1 in Glendale.

Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) and Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) won a close No. 2 doubles match as they defeated Gigi Mercado and Angie Morales 9-8. Alameda beat Mercado 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles while Hernandez lost a three-set match at No. 4 singles against Morales 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.

Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) and Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) won their No. 1 doubles match against Bella Diaz and Theresa Jones 8-2. Karp went on to defeat Diaz 6-1, 6-1 in her No. 1 singles match. Oropeza shut out Jones at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0.

Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) remained undefeated at No. 6 singles but won by default over Karen Romandia. Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) beat Taylor Delorme 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Mackey and Nickles won their No. 3 doubles match by default.

The Aztecs will close out the regular season on Tuesday against Paradise Valley Community College at the Tucson Racquet Club. The match will start at 1:30 p.m.
