Aztecs women's tennis shutout Paradise Valley to close regular season

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (9-8, 6-2 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Tuesday with a shutout victory over Paradise Valley Community College.

The Aztecs finished winning five of their final six matches. Freshman Jahnessa Mackey (Amphitheater HS) finished the regular season with an undefeated record (8-0) in ACCAC conference play at No. 6 singles play. She is on an eight-match winning streak. She beat Madison Zeller 6-0, 6-1. Cristina Oropeza (Nogales HS) went 7-1 in conference play in No. 2 singles competition. She defeated Melissa Lugo 6-1, 6-0.

Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) shut out Anastasia Ovchinnikova 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Yani Alameda (Pueblo HS) beat MaKenna Newman 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) beat Daria Kodavic at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1. Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) beat Alexis Smith 6-1, 6-0 in her No. 5 singles match.

The Aztecs swept Paradise Valley in all three doubles matches. Oropeza and Karp defeated Ovchinnikova and Lugo 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Alameda and Hernandez beat Newman and Kodavic 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Mackey and Nickles defeated Smith and Zeller in the No. 3 doubles match 8-0.

The Aztecs will compete in the Region I Tournament on Tuesday and Wednesday, Apr. 21-22 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale.
