Aztecs Women's Tennis Earns Shutout Win at Glendale

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (6-2, 2-1 in ACCAC) dominated its ACCAC conference match at Glendale Community College on Tuesday. The No. 22 ranked Aztecs won 9-0.

The No. 1 doubles team duo of freshmen Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS) defeated Jordan Vlad and Theresa Jones 8-2.  Sophomores Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) and Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) blanked Natalia Mendenhall and Ashley Smith 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. In the No. 3 doubles match, sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) and freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) beat Lyssa Le and Karen Royos 8-1.

In singles competition, Brown defeated Vlad in the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-0 while Ruth won her No. 2 singles match over Jones 6-2, 6-4.

Karp earned a shutout against Mendenhall at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Nickles took control of her match at No. 4 singles to beat Smith 6-2, 6-1.

Hernandez blanked Le in their No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0 while Miller defeated Royos 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.

The Aztecs will host the University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire at the Tucson Racquet Club tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
