Brown Wins Singles and Doubles Match but Aztecs Women's Tennis Fall vs. University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (6-3) couldn't recover in singles competition on Wednesday against the University of Wisconsin-EAU Claire. The No. 22 ranked Aztecs fell 7-2 at the Tucson Racquet Club.

Freshman Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) was part of Pima's wins in singles and doubles play. Along with No. 1 doubles partner Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS), the freshmen duo defeated Sarah Henderson and Colleen McCullough 8-4. Brown went on to win her No. 1 singles match against Henderson 7-5, 6-2. She rallied from being down 4-5 in the first set and took control of the second set.

Ruth took a 4-3 lead in the second set but dropped her No. 2 singles match against Liv Gallagher 6-1, 6-4.

Sophomore Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) took a 4-1 lead in the first set of her No. 3 singles match but fell against McCullough 7-5, 6-1. Fellow sophomore Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) lost her match at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-1 to Brooke Volpone. Karp and Hernandez kept their No. 2 doubles match close but fell 8-4 to Gallagher and Paige Kuepers.

Sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) fell in her No. 4 singles match against Kuepers 6-1, 6-0 while freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) lost to Kendra Berry 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles match. Nickles and Miller lost in their No. 3 doubles match to Volpone and Molly Sanvik 8-2.

The Aztecs will be back at the Tucson Racquet Club tomorrow when they host an ACCAC conference match against Paradise Valley Community College. The match starts at 1:30 p.m.
