Ruth Rallies in Singles Match as Women's Tennis Beats Easter Arizona

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (9-3, 4-1 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday at the Tucson Racquet Club.

The No. 22 ranked Aztecs defeated Eastern Arizona College 8-1 winning its third straight match.

Freshman Samantha Ruth (Catalina Foothills HS) rallied to win her No. 2 singles match. She dropped the first set but came back to beat Nikki Hill 4-6, 6-4, 10-4. Fellow freshman Kelsey Brown (Ironwood Ridge HS) escaped the first set and shut out Amelie Saint Dizier 7-5, 6-0 in their No. 1 singles match.

Sophomore Stephanie Nickles (Ironwood Ridge HS) earned a shutout win over Sydney Williams 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while fellow sophomore Ema Hernandez (Sunnyside HS) defeated Erin Hackett 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Freshman Fernanda Miller (Nogales HS) won her No. 6 singles match over Zoey Freeman 6-0, 6-1.

Freshman Dana Pineda (Rincon/University HS) lost a three-set match at No. 3 singles as she fell to Celine Marin 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

The Aztecs swept the Gila Monsters in doubles competition. Brown and Ruth won their No. 1 doubles match as the duo defeated Saint Dizier and Hill 8-3. Hernandez and sophomore Noelle Karp (Catalina Foothills HS) downed Marin and Freeman 8-1 at No. 2 doubles while Nickles and Miller dominated their No. 3 doubles match against Williams and Hackett 8-1.

The Aztecs will play a tough match on Thursday when they travel to Mesa Community College. The ACCAC conference match begins at 1:30 p.m.
