Aztecs women's tennis earns shutout win vs. Glendale CC

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (2-2, 1-2 in ACCAC) won its first ACCAC conference match on Tuesday against Glendale Community College. The Aztecs blanked the Gauchos 9-0.

Freshman Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) won a tough match at No. 1 singles over Julia Hansen 6-3, 6-4. Fellow freshman Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) defeated Giselle Mercado 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The duo earned a shutout win in their No. 1 doubles match over Mercado and Angela Morales 8-0.

Freshman Lien Nguyen won her No. 3 singles match over Morales 6-0, 6-0. At No. 4 singles, sophomore Dana Pineda (University HS) beat Sunniva Juliussen 6-3, 6-1. Nguyen and No. 2 doubles partner Ashley Ochoa (Tucson HS) beat Hansen and Juliussen 8-4.

Freshman Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) won her No. 5 singles match over Yulma Lopez 6-2, 6-2 while freshman Elise Rodriguez (Flowing Wells HS) defeated Kathenne Lennen 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Shafer and Rodriguez dominated to beat Lopez and Ortega 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

The Aztecs will play at Paradise Valley Community College on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
