Aztecs women's tennis drop match vs. Eastern Arizona College

The Pima Community College women's tennis team (3-3, 2-3 in ACCAC) dropped a tough match on Tuesday at the West Campus Tennis Courts against Eastern Arizona College.

The Aztecs lost 6-3 to the No. 22 ranked Gila Monsters as they fell in two of the three doubles matches and four of the six in singles play.

Freshman Lien Nguyen and sophomore Dana Pineda (University HS) picked up the win in the No. 2 doubles match over Celine Marin and Rachel White 8-1.

Freshmen Jayme Shafer Tucson HS) and Elise Rodriguez (Flowing Wells HS) won their respected singles matches. Shafer pulled out a tough victory against Rebekah Larson 7-5, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. Rodriguez beat Rachel White at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-3.

Shafer and Rodriguez fell in their No. 3 doubles match to Payton Cap and Larson 8-4.

Nguyen rallied after dropping the first set in her No. 3 singles matchbut fell in three-sets to Marin 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles duo of freshmen Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) and Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) fell to Juliette Mary and Amelie Saint-Dizier 8-5. Oropeza lost to Mary 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles while Fernando dropped her match at No. 2 singles to Saint-Dizier 6-1, 6-3.

The Aztecs play another tough match-up on Wednesday at Mesa Community College at 11:00 a.m.
