Oropeza and Pineda fall in the round of 16 at the NJCAA National Tournament

The Pima Community College women's tennis team completed the second day of competition on Monday at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center.

Freshman Emma Oropeza (Nogales HS) fell in her match at No. 1 singles to No. 2 seeded Ceire Mullins from Hillsborough Community College (FL) 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.

Sophomore Dana Pineda (University HS) dropped her No. 4 singles match in the round of 16 to No. 5 seeded Julia Ortiz from Mesa Community College 6-1, 6-2.

Freshman Janine Fernando (Sabino HS) played in the first round of the consolation bracket but fell at No. 2 singles to Bianca Buie from Mississippi Gulf Coast 8-1.

Freshman Jayme Shafer (Tucson HS) dropped her match in the second round of the consolation bracket at No. 5 singles to Essence Green from North Central Texas 8-3.

Freshman Lien Nguyen (No. 3 singles), freshman Elise Rodriguez (No. 6 singles) and all three doubles teams received byes to the consolation bracket quarterfinals round on Tuesday.
