Aztecs volleyball fall in Region Championship Round

The Pima Community College volleyball team's run through the Region I, Division II tournament came to an end on Saturday against Glendale Community College in Phoenix.

The No. 3 seeded Aztecs fell in straight sets against No. 4 Glendale 25-20, 25-16, 25-15. The Aztecs finished in second place for the Region I, Division II tournament for the first time in their program's history.

Pima fell behind early in the first set and at one point, trailed 17-13 before Glendale scored three straight set points to lead 20-13. The Aztecs took a slim lead in the second set at 7-5 after a Nykole Adun (Catalina Magnet HS) kill but Glendale came back and took control late. Pima trailed 15-13 but gave up six straight points. In the third set, the Aztecs couldn't recover as Glendale took control to win the game and the match.

Kaysee Pilgrim (Goldwater HS) finished the match with eight kills and four blocks. Alexis Ammerman (Tucson Magnet HS) had 16 digs and six kills while Angel Chavez (Mingus Union HS) had 19 digs. Jamie Holliday (Sahuaro HS) finished with 12 digs and five kills and Liz Mata (Flowing Wells HS) had 26 assists and 10 digs.

The Aztecs finished the season with a 16-15 overall record.
