The Pima Community College volleyball program signed its first two recruits for the 2018 season and both earned All-Region honors for their play as seniors.

Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) and Mackenzie Welch (Willcox HS) signed her letter of intent earlier this month to play for the Aztecs.

Nash, an outside hitter, was named first team 5A All-Region this season. She finished the season with 510 assists (7.7 per set), 67 digs, 50 aces and 49 kills in 66 sets played. The Cougars finished the season at 15-12 overall.

"We are very excited to bring Madi into the Pima program. She brings an exceptional level of experience and competitiveness that I feel can help us to new heights here at Pima," Pima head volleyball coach Dan Bithell said. "Madi has tremendous character and is such a wonderful person. I am so happy to welcome her to our family."

Nash was on the Zona 17-1 club volleyball team that won the national title in July coached by Bithell.

Welch, a middle blocker, was named second team 2A All-Region for the Cowboys. In her high school career, Welch had 552 blocks (173 solo), 292 kills and 22 aces in 180 sets played.

"Mackenzie is a force at the net and I am excited to see her skills translate to this level," Bithell said. "She brings an incredible work ethic and is a fun and enthusiastic person to be around. Mackenzie will be a great addition to our 2018 team and family."
