Bruno takes first place at ACCAC Championships

The Pima Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the ACCAC Conference Championships on Friday at Estrella Regional Park in Goodyear, AZ.

Freshman Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) is the ACCAC Conference champion after she took first place in the women's 5K (3.1 miles) with a time of 18 minutes, 37.9 seconds. The women's race had 36 competitors.

The women's team took second place with a score of 51 points. Central Arizona College finished in first place with a score of 24 points. Mesa Community College placed third with 55 points, Estrella Mountain Community College finished in fourth place with 115 and Glendale Community College was fifth with 124.

Freshman Sionna Johnson (Cienega HS) took fifth place for the Aztecs with a time of 19:23. Freshman Cindy Corrales (Nogales HS) crossed the finish line in 13th place with a time of 20:24.5 while freshman Kaylen Fox (Sahuaro HS) was 15th at 20:41.0. Sophomore Arianna Roche (Cienega HS) finished the race in 18th place at 21:09.8

In the men's 8K (4.97 miles) race, the Aztecs took fifth place with a score of 115 points. Central Arizona College finished in first place with 28 points. Paradise Valley Community College was second with 39 points, Mesa took third with 88 points, Glendale was fourth with 104 and Estrella Mountain took sixth with 190.

Freshman Morgan Risch (Flowing Wells HS) had the best finish for the Aztecs as he took seventh place out of 53 runners with a time of 25:24.6. Sophomore Collin Dylla (Ironwood Ridge HS) took 21st place with a time of 26:41.7 while fellow sophomore Victor Bustamante (Flowing Wells HS) placed 30th finishing at 27:41.4.

Freshman Luis Ovieda (Rio Rico HS) took 33rd place at 27:54.9 and freshman Connor Deakin (Ironwood Ridge HS) was 38th at 28:28.3.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic on Saturday, Oct. 7 at Mesa Community College. The men's race will be at 7:00 a.m. and the women's race will follow at 7:45 a.m.
