Aztecs baseball drop doubleheader against (11) Paradise Valley

The Pima Community College baseball team (23-22, 16-18 in ACCAC) dropped its final home regular season doubleheader on Tuesday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs came into the day with a grasp on the No. 4 seed for the Region I, Division II Tournament. They were up by three games and were two games behind for the No. 3 spot.

Game 1: (11) Paradise Valley CC Pumas 5, Pima CC Aztecs 4 (8 innings):

The Aztecs took the lead but Paradise Valley scored three runs in the 6th inning and one in the 8th in Pima's 5-4 loss in the first game. The Aztecs went up 4-1 in the 4th inning when Trevor Johnson hit a solo home run to left field. Trey Stine (Ironwood Ridge HS) hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning and Jaquese Moore (Marcos de Niza HS) scored on a wild pitch. Stine was 2 for 4 with an RBI while Johnson finished 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Ivan Estrella (Tucson Magnet HS) drew two walks and scored a run.

Chris Kucko (Sahuarita HS) took the loss (4-6) as he pitched the final three innings in relief giving up two runs (two earned) on six hits with three walks. Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) started and threw five innings giving up three runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts.

Game 2: (11) Paradise Valley CC 14, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (5 innings):

The Aztecs surrendered five runs in the 3rd inning and eight runs in the 5th in their 14-1 loss in the second game. The Aztecs tied the game at 1-1 in the 1st inning when Trevor Johnson hit an RBI single to plate Moore. Johnson went 1 for 2 with an RBI. Moore was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Ruben Bracamontes (Sunnyside HS), Vinnie Tarantola (Sahuaro HS) and Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) each went 1 for 2.

Tarantola took the loss (4-4) as he pitched two and two-third innings giving up six runs (six earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will play their final three doubleheaders on the road to close out the regular season. They will play at Phoenix College on Saturday in a conference doubleheader. Games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
