Catalano and Cruz Lead the Way as Baseball Beats Arizona Club Team

The Pima Community College baseball team (9-0) used its high powered offense and stellar pitching to beat the University of Arizona Club team on Tuesday at the West Campus.

The Aztecs won 11-1 in eight innings as they broke the game open with four runs in the 3rd inning. Sophomore Al Cruz (Nogales HS) hit a two-run RBI single to score freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) and sophomore Ryan Ramsower (Salpointe Catholic HS) to make it 3-0. Sophomore Marcus Catalano (Salpointe Catholic HS) followed with a two-run home run to make it 5-0.

Cruz also hit an RBI triple to put Pima on the board in the first inning and Catalano hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the sixth inning. Cruz went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Catalano finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Felix was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and Ramoswer went 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

Freshman pitcher Trevelle Hill (Tucson Magnet HS) started the game and picked up the win (2-0). He went five innings giving up two hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Freshman Andres Hackman (Empire HS) pitched two innings giving up one run (one earned) on one hit with two strikeouts. Freshman Jake Roberson closed it out pitching one inning with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs open ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they play at Scottsdale Community College. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
