Aztecs Baseball Takes Over in Second Game in Split at Arizona Christian University

The Pima Community College baseball team (27-19) earned a non-conference doubleheader split against the Arizona Christian University's junior varsity team on Tuesday in Phoenix.

Freshman Anthony Felix (Canyon del Oro HS) finished the day 4 for 6 while sophomore Hunter Green (Sahuaro HS) went 3 for 6.

Game 1: Arizona Christian University (JV) Firestorm 2, Pima CC Aztecs 1

The Firestorm scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and the Aztecs cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth.

Sophomore David Oropeza (Noglaes HS) put the ball in play and reach on an error which scored Green, who led off the inning with a double.

The Aztecs manufactured nine hits in the game but had two errors.

Green finished the game 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double while Felix also went 2 for 3. Oropeza was 1 for 3 for the game.

Sophomore Daniel Tolano (Cholla HS) pitched a great game but took the loss (4-6). He went six innings giving up two runs (none earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 14, Arizona Christian University (JV) Firestorm 4 (6 innings)

The Aztecs took an early lead but the rout was on as they scored three in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and four in the sixth inning to earn the run-rule victory. The Aztecs finished the game with 15 hits.

Sophomore Frankie Ortiz (Ironwood Ridge HS) hit a home run and finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs, a run scored and a double. Oropeza went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored while Felix was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Green contributed by going 1 for 3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. Freshman Jake Roberson picked up the win (2-0) in a relief appearance as he pitched four innings giving up one run (one earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and four walks. Freshman Ernesto Romero (Salpointe Catholic HS) started the game and threw two innings giving up three runs (one earned) on two hits with four walks.

The Aztecs will get back to ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they host Mesa Community College at the West Campus. The games will be at noon and 2:30 p.m.
