Aztecs baseball's Sikes named NJCAA All-American

Pima Community College baseball player Phillip Sikes became the 14th Aztecs baseball player to be named NJCAA All-American on Tuesday.

  • Sikes, a sophomore outfielder/RHP, was selected to the Honorable Mention All-American team. He is the first Pima baseball player named NJCAA All-American since Jared McDonald in 2008 and is just the fourth since 1994.
  • Sikes earned first team All-ACCAC and first team and Region I, Division I in his only season with the Aztecs. He batted .369 and led the team with 25 extra base hits, six triples, seven homeruns, 16 steals and tied for the lead with 39 RBIs. Sikes had 66 hits in 179 at-bats and scored 47 runs. He finished with a fielding percentage of .985.
  • He made 10 appearances on the mound throwing 9.1 innings going 2-1 with a 0.96 ERA. He gave up one earned one and collected four saves.
  • Sikes was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 33rd round of the MLB draft. He signed his letter of intent to play for Texas Christian University starting in the fall.
