Aztecs baseball hits five home runs in sweep at Cochise College

The Pima Community College baseball team (26-6, 19-5 in ACCAC) earned its seventh straight ACCAC conference sweep and 16th straight win on Tuesday at Cochise College (20-12, 13-9).
The Aztecs hit five home runs on the day. Freshman Parker Schmidt hit two homers and finished the day 4 for 9 with five RBIs and four runs scored. Freshman Jose Enriquez was 3 for 7 with four RBIs and a run while sophomore JJ Rollon (Skyline HS) went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, three runs scored and three walks.

  • Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 7, Cochise College Apaches 6: The Aztecs rallied by scoring five runs in the 5th inning and taking the lead in the 6th.
    The Aztecs trailed 6-1 heading into the 5th inning. Schmidt hit a lead-off double which was followed by freshman Alex Kelch's (Tucson Magnet HS) walk. Enriquez cut into the lead with a 3-run blast to make it 6-4. Freshman Daniel Durazo (Salpointe Catholic HS) singled and with one out, Rollon tied the game with a 2-run shot to center field.
    In the 6th inning, Schmidt hit a lead-off solo homer to give the Aztecs the lead for good.
    Schmidt finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Enriquez went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Rollon was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Kelch, Durazo and freshman Romeo Ballesteros (Salpointe Catholic HS) each scored a run.
    Freshman Chaison Miklich picked up the win in a relief appearance going two and two-third innings giving up two hits. Freshman Kaden Palmer picked up his fourth save of the season after he got three groundouts in the 7th to end it.

  • Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 11, Cochise College Apaches 6: The Aztecs took the lead in the 3rd inning and used an eight-run 4th inning to take control for good.
    Schmidt hit his second home run of the day with a 2-run blast scoring freshman Fernando Loera, who drew a walk in the previous at-bat with one out.
    After Rollon reached on an error to open the 4th, sophomore Terrell Huggins (Cienega HS) drilled a 2-run home run to put Pima up 4-0. With one out, Schmidt hit an RBI triple to score pinch runner Andre Greene (Rio Rico HS). Enriquez hit a sacrifice-fly RBI which was followed by Durazo's RBI single to plate Kelch to make it 7-0. Huggins had his second RBI hit of the inning with a double to score sophomore Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS).
    Schmidt finished the game 2 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Huggins went 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a run while Durazo was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run. Enriquez went 1 for 4 with an RBI and Rollon finished 0 for 1 with two runs scored and three walks.
    Freshman Jaren Jackson picked up the win (6-1) as he pitched seven innings giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field tomorrow as they step away from ACCAC conference play to host Community Christian College in a single game. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
