Andrew Stucky named ACCAC Player of the Year as Baseball produces six on All-ACCAC Team

The Pima Community College baseball team closed out the regular season on Saturday and got plenty of recognition on the All-ACCAC Conference and All-Region I lists.

  • Sophomore catcher Andrew Stucky (Canyon del Oro HS) was named ACCAC Player of the Year as well as first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region. He played in 49 games and had 156 at-bats. He batted .359 (.393 in ACCAC play) and led the Aztecs with 19 doubles, 28 walks and tied for the lead with 56 hits and five home runs. Stucky also had 37 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .480 and a slugging percentage of .603. He also posted a fielding percentage of .975 with 110 put-outs.
  • Sophomore infielder Gage Mestas was selected first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region. He played in 48 games with 169 at-bats. Mestas led the Aztecs with 49 runs scored and 26 steals. He also had 54 hits, nine doubles, three triples, 29 RBIs and 14 walks. Mestas produced a fielding percentage of 1.000 with 74 put-outs.
  • Sophomore left-handed pitcher Matt Cornelius was chosen second team All-ACCAC and second team All-Region I. He made 14 appearances on the mound; 13 of them as a starter as he went 9-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 72.0 innings pitched. He gave up 24 earned runs with 25 walks and 73 strikeouts.
  • Sophomore catcher and designated hitter Hunter Faildo was named second team All-ACCAC. He led the Aztecs with 53 games played, 184 at-bats and 39 RBIs. He tied with Stucky for the team-lead with 56 hits and five home runs. Faildo also batted .304 and had 25 runs scored, 10 doubles and 21 walks. He had a fielding percentage of .989 with 178 put-outs.
  • Sophomore infielder Rocco Gump (Seton Catholic HS) was selected second team All-ACCAC. He played in 47 games and had 42 hits in 126 at-bats. He averaged .333 with 32 runs scored, 28 RBIs, 14 walks, 12 stolen bases, four doubles and three triples. He posted a fielding percentage of .947 with 26 put-outs.
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher J.T. Drake was also selected second team All-ACCAC. Drake finished the regular season leading the NJCAA with 13 saves. He made 19 appearances on the hill going 2-0 with a 2.31 ERA in 35.0 innings pitched. He gave up nine earned runs with 14 walks and 26 strikeouts.

The No. 3 seeded Aztecs will play at No. 2 South Mountain Community College in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Semifinals. The first game of the best-of-3 series will be on Thursday starting at 2:00 p.m.
